We are often asked if we use the much buzzed-about term “clean” to describe our skincare products.

Wherever possible, we source the highest grade of ingredients on the market from suppliers who have ethical and sustainable business practices and history of quality, including the inclusion of ingredients/produce that we grow naturally ourselves on our farm in Malibu according to the principles of permaculture.
Retrouvé products represent an anthology of over 75 years of collective experience, research, and collaboration; they were created originally for Jami and Klaus Heidegger’s own personal use; and, as such, no compromise was made in the cost, quality, or research behind the ingredients or processes used to develop our formulae.

The term “clean” is a marketing term that seems to be gaining in prevalence as a means to describe or categorize products and/or brands that are mindfully produced without the proven or suspected toxic ingredients listed above.
At the moment, however, a set standard or definition for what constitutes a “clean” cosmetic formulation or product line has yet to be determined. Therefore, until such clarification is made, we have opted not to use this term to describe our products. Factually, we are very pleased to share that our products are completely free of ingredients that are most often considered to be questionable or undesirable in a cosmetic formulation.
